Welcome To Birder.Travel
Our History
Sicklebill Safaris/Birder.Travel is a small family run company based in North Queensland, Australia. We have been operating in the Pacific region for over 20 years. In recent years we have been joined by other excellent guides and offer itineraries to Asia, Africa and the Middle East as well as Australia and the Pacific. We specialise in developing customised itineraries to suit small groups and individuals who seek excellent bird, wildlife and perhaps cultural experiences in the destinations they choose to visit.
Sicklebill Safaris was originally founded with the aim of taking small groups of visitors to New Guinea to experience the wonderful country and its astonishingly varied culture, and to see as many of the 400 + endemic species as possible. We support locally owned, minimum impact, sustainable tourism ventures using local guides as much as possible and help to provide an alternative income source to logging. We have long promoted the participation of local people in all aspects of eco-tourism. In Papua New Guinea we have worked closely with the land-owners, encouraging the setting up of land-owner lodges in prime birding sites and providing job training for local guides. We are now also working closely with tourism bodies in the Solomon Islands to promote bird, wildlife and cultural tourism there.
Cassowary Tours is a Sicklebill Safaris subsidiary based in Topaz and offers day and short accommodated tours around Northern Queensland.
Check out our Scheduled Tours section for tours already scheduled to our various destinations and if there is nothing advertised as currently available feel free to enquire anyway. We are happy to set up tours and advertise for others to accompany you. This is how most of our trips work!
